This is not something that happens very often in a lifetime, but 13 days ago as we were driving our Alicante airport car hire vehicle back to the airport at 4.30 in the morning, we drove up the ramp to the roof of the airport’s car park. We knew their was something wrong as soon as we entered the car park as it was just too empty.
But when we pulled up in front of what was the car hire office to see it no longer exists, took us by surprise. We had picked the car up at a different airport and was not told there had been changes, so in the darkness of the early morning we had to find solutions and catch a plane back to the UK.
With only 90 minutes to catch the flight their seemed little to do, but go to the airport terminal and hand the key into the information desk and ask why the car park was not being used anymore and would hand the key back to the car hire company. That may have been a good idea, had we not then discovered that the Alicante airport terminal no longer existed, as it was just closed.
We could see the new terminal in the distance and knew it was being built, but no one had said it was replacing the old, we assumed it would become terminal 2. To cut a long story short, we caught the plane, handed the car keys in and in the end the car hire office had not been moved that far away anyway and if it had been, we probably would have seem it. We catch the same flight in 7 days, this time we are more prepared.
